Steel health monitoring is critically important for steel producers and manufacturers, as well as for several end users, including energy & environment, transportation, oil & gas recovery, structures etc. Magnetic properties can be correlated with mechanical properties, namely localized stresses, hardness and corrosion. Therefore, magnetic technologies offer the possibility of monitoring in an non-conducting way the distribution of such mechanical properties, thus allowing for the determination of the remaining useful time of steel structures.
